Why We Brought Paymode to MassPay: Safer Vendor Payments, No New System

We've partnered with Bottomline to bring Paymode virtual card and Premium ACH into MassPay. Starting November 2026, you can pay U.S. vendors through Bottomline's Paymode network from the same MassPay platform you already use to move money in 180+ countries. Here's why we did it, and what it changes for your team.

‍

Why we built this

Vendor payments are one of the easiest places for fraud to slip in. A vendor emails new bank details. An invoice looks right but isn't. By the time anyone notices, the money is gone.

Finance teams are expected to stop all of it with fewer hands than ever. The usual answer is another tool, but every new system means another login, another reconciliation and another thing to maintain. We wanted to give our customers stronger protection without adding to the pile.

‍

What is the MassPay and Bottomline partnership?

Paymode is Bottomline's B2B payments network, with more than 550,000 businesses on it according to Bottomline. We're embedding two of its payment methods, virtual card and Premium ACH, directly into MassPay. Your vendor payments run through Paymode's network, and you manage them in MassPay, right next to your global payouts.

‍

What are virtual card and Premium ACH payments?

A virtual card is a card number created for one payment. Once it's used, it can't be used again, so a leaked number is worth very little to a fraudster.

Premium ACH is a bank-to-bank payment sent through the Paymode network. Every payment carries invoice-level details, so your vendor knows exactly what it's for and can match it to the right invoice quickly.

Both run on a network where Bottomline validates every business using more than 300 data points. That's the part we care about most. Payments generally land within two to three business days of approval.

What changes for your finance team?

  • You pay validated vendors. Payments go to businesses Bottomline has authenticated, so it's much harder for a fake account to get paid.
  • You get safer ways to pay. Single-use virtual cards and Premium ACH give you protected options for U.S. vendors.
  • You stay in control. You decide who gets paid, how and when, and you can see every vendor payment.
  • You stay in one place. No new portal, no extra login. It all lives in MassPay.

And if you still mail checks to a handful of vendors, this is an easy way to retire them.

‍

Why we chose Bottomline

Bottomline has been modernizing business payments since 1989, and Paymode is built around the thing we care about most: making sure money reaches the right party, safely. As our CEO Ran Grushkowsky puts it, “security is at the center of every payment our customers make. Adding Paymode lets us raise that bar for vendor payments without asking you to take on another system.”

"Finance teams are under pressure to protect against fraud while doing more with fewer resources. MassPay has built a strong platform for moving money across a wide range of payment scenarios. Together, we're making it easier for their customers to automate vendor payments securely and move away from paper checks." Gunita Bindra, Vice President, Partnerships and Business Development, Bottomline
